Suitability analysis and revised strategies for marine environmental carbon capture and storage (CCS) monitoring

چکیده

Environmental monitoring of offshore Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) complexes requires robust methodologies cost-effective tools to detect, attribute quantify CO2 leakage in the unlikely event it occurs from a sub-seafloor reservoir. Various approaches can be utilised for environmental CCS monitoring, but their capabilities are often undemonstrated more detailed strategies need developed. We tested compared different an setting using release experiment conducted at 120 m water depth Central North Sea. Tests were carried out over range injection rates (6 - 143 kg d−1) comparable emission observed abandoned wells. Here, we discuss benefits challenges compare relative cost, temporal spatial resolution, technology readiness level sensitivity leakage. The individual demonstrate high certainty cover wide operational requirements. Additionally, refer set generic requirements site-specific baseline surveys that will aid interpretation results. Critically, show capability most techniques detect exceeds currently existing legal

Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS)

Carbon capture and sequestration (or storage)—known as CCS—has attracted interest as a measure for mitigating global climate change because large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO 2) emitted from fossil fuel use in the United States are potentially available to be captured and stored underground or prevented from reaching the atmosphere. Large, industrial sources of CO 2 , such as electricity-gener...

Biorefineries of carbon dioxide: From carbon capture and storage (CCS) to bioenergies production.

Greenhouse gas emissions have several adverse environmental effects, like pollution and climate change. Currently applied carbon capture and storage (CCS) methods are not cost effective and have not been proven safe for long term sequestration. Another attractive approach is CO2 valorization, whereby CO2 can be captured in the form of biomass via photosynthesis and is subsequently converted int...

Carbon dioxide capture and storage \(CCS\) – liability for non-permanence under the UNFCCC

Prior to CoP 10, our discussion paper “On the Integration of Carbon Capture and Storage into the International Climate Regime” argued that carbon capture and storage (CCS) was similar to carbon sequestration in the area of Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF). This was criticized by several readers who observed that treating CCS as a removal activity (sink) would not be compatible wi...
